Rawalpindi: A prisoner from Central Jail Adiala died while receiving treatment at Holy Family Hospital after a self harm incident at the prison last month.
The prisoner sustained serious injuries in the September 22 incident and was initially treated by the jail authorities before being transferred to Holy Family Hospital. He remained under treatment at the hospital but later died from his injuries.
The jail sources reported that the prisoner was sentenced to death in connection with a murder case registered in Attock in 2018 and was subsequently transferred to Adiala Jail.
Police also registered a case regarding the self harm incident at Saddar Beruni Police Station, and Attock police were informed following the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the incident inside the prison remain unclear and are being investigated.
