Paris: Pakistani fashion designer Zainab Chottani has presented her ‘Bleu Heritage’ collection in Paris, bringing elements associated with Pakistan’s Hala pottery tradition to an international runway.
The collection uses the colours and craft associated with Hala pottery as part of its design language, according to material shared following the presentation. Backstage footage also showed the preparation behind the show, including fittings, production work and the runway presentation.
Chottani presented her work on October 2 as part of MODA Productions’ international fashion programme at Hôtel de Maisons in Paris. The programme also featured designers including Fjolla Nila, ALmée and Levörchy.
The Paris presentation marked Chottani’s debut at a MODA Productions showcase and placed a collection referencing Pakistani craft within a programme involving designers from different countries.
Chottani established her label in 2009 and initially built its profile around bridal couture before expanding into formalwear, luxury prêt and ready to wear. Her work has incorporated techniques including hand embroidery, block printing, gota and kiran work alongside fabrics such as organza, raw silk, chiffon and net.
The label also operates an international retail platform and has expanded its commercial presence beyond Pakistan. Its international website lists its head office at Dubai Digital Park in the United Arab Emirates and offers bridal, formal, prêt, unstitched and menswear collections.
Chottani’s Paris appearance follows a broader pattern of Pakistani designers using international showcases and online retail to take local textile techniques, silhouettes and craft traditions to audiences outside the country. For Chottani, ‘Bleu Heritage’ uses Hala pottery as a reference point for presenting a Pakistani craft vocabulary through fashion.
