Lahore: The Punjab government has launched the Punjab Green Credit Program, offering cash rewards valued at Rs 20,000 to residents who adopt eco friendly transport habits, specifically cycling. Designed to curb vehicle emissions and mitigate seasonal smog across major urban hubs, the scheme directly links citizen led climate action with financial rewards through an automated verification framework.
Under the rules of the cycling initiative, participants must complete a cumulative distance of at least 75 kilometres on a bicycle. Journeys must be tracked and logged using the official CM Punjab Green Credit Program Tracker App. Upon reaching the 75 kilometre milestone, users are required to submit photographic proof of their bicycle along with recorded trip evidence via the program’s online Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) form.
Once the submitted data successfully passes automated verification checks, the system disburses the Rs 20,000 Green Credit reward directly to the participant's account without manual intervention. While initially conceived as a pilot project for Lahore, provincial authorities have expanded the program across all districts of Punjab, allowing residents across the province to register through the official online platform.
Promoted under the slogan "Cycle, save the environment and earn a reward," the initiative forms part of a broader provincial strategy to improve public health and combat air pollution. In addition to encouraging non motorised transport, the wider Green Credit framework encompasses activities such as plastic recycling, tree planting, and electric vehicle adoption, operating alongside structural measures like the establishment of the province's first Environmental Protection Force.
