Hong Kong: Social media posts claiming actor Jackie Chan has died at the age of 72 are false, after an obituary style image circulated online with the dates “1954 2026”.
The black and white image of Chan was shared across social media platforms and prompted some users to post tributes. Some versions of the claim received millions of views. No announcement of Chan's death has been made by his family or representatives, and no credible news organisation has reported that he has died.
Chan, whose birth name is Fang Shilong, has also been involved in film work this year.
In July, he visited Pei Chun Public School in Singapore during an event organised by the Lim Family Foundation. According to The Straits Times, Chan met more than 900 students and performed his song Hard to Say Goodbye during the visit. He later took part in filming Armour of God 4 Ultimatum in Azerbaijan. The country's Cinema Agency announced in August that filming in Azerbaijan had been completed, with more than 200 local specialists involved in the production.
The film will see Chan return as Asian Hawk, a character from the Armour of God series, and is expected to be released in 2027.
This is not the first time false reports of Chan's death have circulated online. Similar claims appeared in 2011 and 2022 and were subsequently debunked. Chan has worked in the film industry for more than six decades and is known for films including Rush Hour, Police Story and Drunken Master.
