Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has released a seven point negotiation draft, while the federal government disputes its status as an agreed document.
The draft calls for regular meetings between the prime minister and opposition leaders in both houses of parliament, with progress on outstanding political and national issues within two months.
It also proposes a joint negotiation committee comprising representatives of the governing coalition, Pakistan Peoples Party and opposition parties. The committee would pursue talks and submit recommendations within one month.
Two points seek legal, human and medical rights for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi under the Constitution, existing laws and jail rules. These include consideration of advice from their nominated doctors and access to family members, lawyers and authorised companions, subject to legal restrictions.
The draft seeks action within 10 days, where legally possible, on prisoners’ appeals and other petitions. It also calls for the release of women it describes as political prisoners, including Yasmin Rashid and Bushra Bibi.
On security, it proposes a meeting between authorised federal and provincial representatives within 72 hours to formulate a joint strategy against terrorism in KP.
PTI would cancel its march after receiving written federal assurances on implementation, while retaining its right to lawful, peaceful protest if commitments were breached.
Responding on X, Naqvi said Afridi’s document may have been his proposed draft, but negotiating teams had finalised a separate text agreed by both sides, alongside a KP terrorism implementation plan.
