Islamabad: The PPP will consult Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari over an invitation to attend an all parties conference being organised by the Tehreek e Tahaffuz e Ain Pakistan (TTAP).
A TTAP delegation met PPP Parliamentarians Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari at the party's Central Secretariat in Islamabad on Tuesday and formally invited the PPP to participate.
The delegation included PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Senator Zeeshan Khanzada and TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai.
Bukhari said he would present the invitation to Bilawal and inform the alliance of his decision. He said the PPP supported consultation among political parties on constitutional and democratic matters.
During the meeting, TTAP representatives briefed the PPP on the proposed conference's agenda. Discussions also covered the political situation, constitutional matters, democratic institutions and contacts between political parties.
Speaking after the meeting, Gohar said the alliance was awaiting the PPP's response. He called for political consensus on issues including judicial and Election Commission independence.
The outreach is part of TTAP's consultations with political parties ahead of the conference. Jamiat Ulema i Islam Fazl has agreed to participate, while the alliance also plans to approach other parties.
TTAP spokesperson Yousafzai said the conference would be held after PTI's planned October 4 protest, with consultations under way to determine its date and venue.
