Karachi: The judicial commission investigating the murder of Mir Raza, a 21 year old man found dead in the Gulistan e Jauhar area of Karachi, has summoned one of the investigating officers and his clerk from the station where the case was registered. Members of the commission asked Station House Officer (SHO) Kamran Qureshi and the head clerk Zeeshan to appear on Monday, September 7.

The commission was formed at the request of the Sindh High Court (SHC) after discrepancies surrounding the post mortem evaluation and the registration of the case were found. Mir Raza was allegedly kidnapped from the PECHS area of the city on July 29 and his body was found two days later. The initial report listed the death as a suicide but serious procedural discrepancies emerged after the victim's family insisted that police had not been thorough in their investigation and filed a petiton with the SHC requesting the formation of a joint investigation taskforce.

DSP Siraj Lashari said the investigation had restarted “from zero” on August 13 and was using digital evidence, including CCTV footage. Investigators now say they have recovered a bullet casing but have not found weapon used in the murder, while the final results of a second post mortem exam and other forensic reports are still waiting.

Two officers involved with the investigation and the registration of the case have so far been questioned by the commission while three others have been summoned including Qureshi.
