Venice: Hollywood icon George Clooney brought high spirits to the Venice Film Festival on Friday evening, playfully taking over a photographer’s camera on the red carpet during the premiere of his latest executive production, Furies. Dressed in a tailored navy suit, the 65 year old Oscar winner posed alongside the cast before jokingly grabbing a photo pit camera to snap pictures of the team.
Directed by Rami Kodeih, Furies is set against the backdrop of Beirut following Lebanon’s severe financial collapse. The narrative centers on two sisters, Maro (Rym Mroue) and Dalia (Maria Nakouzi), who orchestrate a bank robbery to recover their own frozen savings from corrupt banking institutions.
The film opened to strong critical acclaim in Venice’s Spotlight programme, with major trade publications praising its kinetic energy and the compelling on screen chemistry between lead actresses Mroue and Nekoite premiere capped an extraordinary week in Venice for Clooney, who was accompanied by his wife, international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.
Earlier in the festival, the actor was honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his decades long contribution to cinema. During his acceptance speech, Clooney paid glowing tribute to Amal's pioneering legal work representing survivors of human rights abuses, describing her as a formidable force in international law while celebrating their shared life and family.
