Lahore: Six women in different parts of the city were assaulted, three grievously, in a spate of reported violence against women that occurred over the last four days. Police reports regarding these crimes were filed at stations across the city including Kahna, Nishtar Colony, Kot Lakhpat, Nawab Town, Shahdara Town and Factory Area.
The incidents have cast significant doubt over the efficacy of Chief Minister (CM) Mariam Nawaz's promise to make Punjab safer for women.
On Sunday, a mentally challenged underage girl was trapped by a suspect in a street in Baghbanpura where a man allegedly attempted to grievously assault her but was stopped by passers by.
Three of the cases registered - Hanjrawal, Kot Lakhpat and Kahna - were for the grievous sexual and bodily harm. In Hanjarwal, a woman alleged that she was living in a rented house where her former husband made forced entry and allegedly grievously assaulted her and then threatened to murder her if she went to the police. In Kahna, a woman said that she was lured to a job interview at a factory by a ride share driver that she met, but that when she arrived for the interview a group of men grievously sexually assaulted her.
Similarly in Kot Lakhpat , a man made a forced entry into the residence of his former wife and threatened her with the murder of her children if she reported the case.
In both Nishtar Colony and Shahdara Town, police registered cases against two alleged serial offenders who the victims said repeatedly sexually assaulted them over a period of time.
