Webdesk: Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Houthi attacks struck areas in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran. Saudi coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al Malki said the attacks injured 73 civilians, including women and children. Saudi authorities have not provided details on damage to all the sites identified by the Houthis.
Yemen’s Houthis say they have struck multiple Saudi energy and military targets, including Saudi Aramco’s refinery and a bulk plant in Abha, as well as King Khalid Air Base and Abha International Airport.
The reported attack on Saudi Aramco’s Jizan facilities is receiving particular attention because the refinery, located near the Yemeni border, is a major part of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure. The Financial Times reported that the facility was hit and that damage was being assessed, while Saudi Aramco has not publicly confirmed the extent of the damage.
The latest attacks come amid a sharp deterioration in Yemen’s security situation. Fighting between Houthi forces and forces supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government has intensified in recent days, raising fears that the relative calm that followed the 2022 truce could give way to a wider conflict.
The Houthis have also increasingly linked their military actions to the wider regional confrontation involving Iran and its allies. Their renewed attacks against Saudi Arabia are significant because they threaten not only Saudi security but also energy infrastructure and transport routes in a region already facing disruption around the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz.
Saudi authorities have vowed to respond to the latest attacks. Any sustained exchange of strikes could further expand the conflict beyond Yemen’s borders and increase pressure on regional energy supplies and shipping.
For now, the most immediate concern is whether the latest attacks remain a limited exchange or become part of a broader escalation. With civilian areas and critical infrastructure both reportedly targeted, the risks extend well beyond the battlefield.
