Webdesk: Egypt has strongly condemned missile and drone attacks targeting several cities in southern Saudi Arabia, expressing full support for Riyadh amid the latest escalation.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry described the attacks on Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran as a “dangerous escalation” and a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Cairo also rejected attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, stressing that the security of Saudi Arabia was closely linked to Egyptian and wider Arab national security.
The statement came after a series of Houthi attacks across southern Saudi Arabia that injured 73 people, including women and children, according to Saudi authorities. The attacks also caused fires and disrupted operations at several energy facilities, with emergency teams deployed to contain the damage.
The Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi targets, while Saudi authorities have described the strikes as a dangerous escalation and vowed to respond. Reports have also indicated that energy infrastructure in Jazan was affected, although the full extent of damage remains under assessment.
Egypt’s latest statement reflects growing concern among Arab states over the widening conflict and its potential impact on regional stability.
Cairo called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure while reaffirming its support for Saudi Arabia in confronting threats to its security. It is pertinent to note that for countries such as Egypt, which has major economic and strategic interests in Red Sea security, further escalation could have consequences well beyond the immediate battlefield.
