Karachi: Former Pakistan Under 19 captain Hassan Khan has earned his first selection in the US squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri series against the UAE and Namibia.
The left arm spinning all rounder replaces fast bowler Ali Khan, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. The selection puts Hassan in contention for his senior international debut.
Hassan captained Pakistan at the 2018 Under 19 World Cup, leading a squad that included future Pakistan internationals Shaheen Shah Afridi and Musa Khan.
After limited opportunities in Pakistan and sporadic appearances in the Pakistan Super League, he moved to the US and developed his career through Major League Cricket.
Representing the San Francisco Unicorns in the 2024 season, Hassan scored 204 runs at an average of 40.80 and a strike rate of 143.66. He also took 10 wickets.
He followed that with 225 runs in the 2025 season at a strike rate of 187.50, hitting 17 sixes. Across those two seasons, he scored 429 runs from 262 balls, including 30 sixes.
His franchise career has also included opportunities in the Big Bash League, ILT20 and Caribbean Premier League.
Hassan returned to the PSL in 2026 with Hyderabad Kingsmen. He scored 139 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 195.77, with a highest score of 33 not out, and claimed six wickets.
His inclusion gives the US another spin bowling and batting option as the team prepares for the World Cup Qualifiers in February.
