Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC) alongside the e launch of the AI Hub Punjab, establishing the country’s first AI enabled security and intelligence framework.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) headquarters, the Chief Minister confirmed that the system will issue automated digital alerts to district coordination committees. The technology is designed to identify potential security threats before they escalate into major incidents, particularly across riverine areas, joint border checkpoints, and the tri border region connecting neighbouring provinces.
The Chief Minister highlighted that crime in Punjab had fallen by as much as 70 per cent following a strategic shift towards proactive crime prevention rather than post incident response. Joint check posts in high risk zones have been upgraded with bulletproof insulation, thermal imaging, and night vision capabilities, alongside body cameras provided to operational police officers to ensure field accountability. Beyond counter terrorism and intelligence sharing, the platform forms part of a broader administrative overhaul.
The provincial government reaffirmed a strict zero tolerance policy on corruption, introducing a dedicated public reporting helpline and instructing senior departmental heads to remove corrupt personnel. The event was attended by senior provincial officials, including Home Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi, with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz acknowledging the operational cooperation of the Pakistan Army and Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah.
