Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court has sought replies within ten days from respondents in petitions seeking the recovery of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s suspended chief minister, the provincial assembly speaker and other individuals.
A bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Farah Jamshed heard the petitions.
Counsel for the petitioners said the suspended chief minister and speaker had been missing for ten days. The lawyer said the federal government had repeatedly stated that the individuals were in its custody.
Responding, the additional attorney general said the government had acknowledged holding all the individuals concerned in protective custody.
Petitioners’ counsel further told the court that 11 people, including PTI leader Junaid Akbar, had also been taken from Speaker House.
The lawyer argued that the Constitution afforded the speaker protection against arrest in that manner from Speaker House.
Justice Arshad Ali said the court would first obtain the respondents’ replies and urged counsel not to rush the proceedings.
The bench directed the respondents to submit their replies within ten days.
