Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema e Islam Fazl (JUI F) is holding a Central Shura meeting to discuss possibly imposing governor's rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with broader political developments and plans to strengthen opposition cooperation.
According to party spokesperson Aslam Ghori, members of the Central Shura from across Pakistan are attending the meeting.
Ghori said the council's top agenda item was the possible imposition of governor's rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The council is also discussing strategies to strengthen the party's political movement against what it deems unconstitutional government actions.
Other agenda items include expanding cooperation among opposition parties, reviewing the performance of federal and provincial governments, and considering the party's future political decisions.
The meeting is also examining regional developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East and in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Inflation, unemployment and public rights are among the domestic issues under discussion.
Separately, JUI F leader Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro defended party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman against criticism and urged opponents to consider the substance of his statements.
Soomro questioned why the party was now defending political arrangements that were considered unacceptable in 2018.
He said that Fazlur Rehman supported parliament and the Constitution and would not endorse undemocratic measures.
The JUI F leader rejected what he described as unrepresentative assemblies and maintained that major national decisions should reflect public confidence.
He argued that parliament was the right forum to build public trust and question decisions made behind closed doors without broader political consultation.
Soomro also clarified that the party did not oppose action against terrorists but believed national security decisions should follow constitutional and democratic processes.
He called on political stakeholders to set aside their differences and resume negotiations to strengthen national stability.
Former senator and JUI F FATA general secretary Maulana Abdul Rashid also expressed concern about the country's political, economic and security situation.
He described conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal areas as particularly serious due to ongoing insecurity.
Abdul Rashid said JUI F remained committed to constitutional governance, the rule of law and democracy, and would oppose measures taken outside the constitutional framework.
He also reaffirmed the support of party workers in the former tribal areas for Fazlur Rehman's political position.
The Central Shura's discussions are ongoing, and the party is still to announce further resolutions.
