Pakistani cinema reached another milestone on the global circuit as superstar Mahira Khan made her debut at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026. Representing Pakistan as a leading voice in South Asian cinema, Khan attended the world premiere of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, directed by TIFF Tribute Award recipient Bassam Tariq and starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali.
Beyond red carpet glamour, Khan’s presence underscored the growing global influence of Pakistani soft power and creative diplomacy. Invited under the South Asian Women Excellence in Cinema and Arts Programme an initiative by Us Studios in collaboration with the Muslim International Film Festival Toronto Khan moderated a high profile panel with Bassam Tariq on authentic diaspora representation. Both Khan and Tariq were honoured with the Muslim Excellence in Cinema and Art Award for their contributions to elevating underrepresented narratives on international platforms.
Against this professional backdrop, the Humsafar actor also shared a personal update, making her pregnancy announcement while stepping out on the red carpet in a hand embroidered burgundy and emerald saree by Pakistani label Aafrinish by Niazi. Reflecting on her participation, Khan emphasised that representing Pakistan on global stages like TIFF allows the country’s artistic voice to be heard on its own terms, independent of broader regional narratives.
