The government has announced the registration process for its special Rs100-per-litre petrol relief scheme, which is aimed at motorcyclists, rickshaw and Chingchi owners, other two- and three-wheeler users, and people using vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Under the scheme, owners and users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Chingchis and other two- and three-wheelers will receive a Rs100-per-litre relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month.
People using vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 800cc will be eligible for the same relief on up to 30 litres of petrol per month.
How to register for petrol relief
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication has issued the registration procedure.
Eligible citizens need to send an SMS containing “REG” followed by their CNIC number to 9771.
The registration message must also include the vehicle number, provincial code and registration date, according to the ministry.
Registration has started with immediate effect, while the government will also run an awareness campaign to inform citizens about the process.
How to get the fuel token
After successfully registering, eligible citizens can obtain their fuel token by sending “TOK” to 9771.
The fuel token can then be presented at participating petrol stations to purchase petrol at the subsidised rate.
When will the petrol relief start?
The relief scheme will begin in Islamabad from the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
In the rest of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the scheme will become available from the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The scheme comes as petrol is currently being sold at Rs375.82 per litre, following a recent increase in fuel prices.
