Karachi: A chilling video capturing the brutal assault of a young student in Karachi’s upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The victim, identified as Ali Jaffery, was abducted from Khayaban e Bukhari within the jurisdiction of the Sahil Police Station and taken to the Do Darya area. Over the course of more than two hours, a group of men subjected him to extreme physical torture and severe psychological humiliation.
The footage circulating online reveals the graphic extent of the violence, showing an attacker sitting on Ali's shoulder and repeatedly striking his head with an elbow, while the victim is beaten with a baseball bat. Ali can be heard desperately pleading with folded hands, saying, "Ibrahim bhai, forgive me." Beyond the physical beating which left him with a fractured leg the attackers forcibly cut his hair, forced him to consume it, and made him verbally abuse himself on camera. Following the assault, the perpetrators heavily pressured and threatened Ali’s family to prevent them from taking legal action.
Taking notice of the viral video, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Zone Asad Raza appointed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District South as the inquiry officer and requested an immediate investigation report. Sahil Police SHO Farooq Sanjrani confirmed that the incident took place in Phase 8 several days prior, noting that while the traumatised victim had initially been too terrified to approach the police, authorities are now using the footage to identify the suspects, contact the family, and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
