Turin: Lazio defeated Juventus three nil on Sunday, October 18, to move level on points with Serie A leaders Inter Milan and record their best start after seven league matches.
The victory took Lazio to 19 points, with defending champions Inter retaining first place on goal difference.
Lazio’s previous best at this stage was 17 points in the 1999 to 2000 season, when Sven Goran Eriksson’s side went on to win the club’s most recent league title, finishing one point ahead of Juventus.
Danish defender Oliver Provstgaard opened the scoring in the 37th minute, rising above the Juventus defence to direct a header inside the far post.
Compatriot Gustav Isaksen doubled the advantage in the 66th minute, cutting inside before placing a low shot beyond the goalkeeper.
Substitute Fisayo Dele Bashiru completed the victory three minutes from time, carrying the ball from his own half into the penalty area before scoring.
Elsewhere, AC Milan survived a late Atalanta fightback to win three goals to two and remain fourth, four points behind the leaders.
Goncalo Ramos converted a penalty before Adrien Rabiot doubled Milan’s lead. Ramos later had another penalty saved, but Mario Gila scored from the resulting corner.
Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic pulled goals back for Atalanta, leaving Milan to negotiate a tense closing period.
Como climbed to fifth with a three goals to one victory at Fiorentina. Mattia Liberali and Nico Paz scored before Marin Pongracic reduced the deficit. Anastasios Douvikas restored Como’s two goal advantage after the interval.
The result left Fiorentina in the relegation zone on four points and gave Como their first victory in four matches.
Lecce also won three nil away to Udinese, with Kialonda Gaspar, Konan N’Dri and Jamil Siebert scoring.
