Torkham: Authorities have again allowed vehicles carrying Afghans returning to Afghanistan to proceed towards the Torkham crossing after temporarily sending them back to holding camps over security concerns.
The vehicles had been turned back from the border’s zero point before permission for their movement was restored.
According to border authorities, officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan remain engaged in discussions to resolve the issue.
The restoration of vehicle movement concerns returning Afghans and does not constitute a general reopening of the border.
Official figures show that 1571532 Afghans returned from Pakistan through Torkham between September 27, 2023, and October 17, 2026.
The crossing was closed on October 12, 2025. Following that closure, passage through this route was permitted only for Afghans residing in Pakistan without legal authorisation who were returning to Afghanistan, according to the provided account.
