Karachi: Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has advised young actors to balance their public image with their personal lives, warning that sharing too much on social media can lead to controversy.
Speaking on ARY Digital's programme Buzz, Hayat said she has never been particularly interested in posting details of her daily life online and prefers to keep certain matters private, especially those concerning her personal life.
The actress said she believes maintaining an element of mystery is part of being a star, arguing that audiences don't need access to every aspect of a celebrity's personal life, and that privacy can make fans more eager to know about their favourite celebrity.
Hayat also cautioned younger performers against sharing too much about themselves, suggesting that excessive social media activity can invite criticism and disputes.
Her remarks addressed the role social media now plays in the entertainment industry, where actors use platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to communicate with audiences, promote their work and share updates about their lives.
She also acknowledged the importance of public visibility. Hayat emphasised that celebrities should decide what aspects of their lives to share rather than making everything available online.
Hayat has worked in Pakistani television and cinema, appearing in dramas including Meray Qatil Meray Dildar and Dil Lagi, as well as films such as Actor in Law, Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Load Wedding and JPNA.
She also appeared in the Marvel Studios series Ms Marvel alongside Fawad Khan, where she played Aisha.
The actress's comments focused on maintaining personal boundaries while managing the public attention that comes with a career in entertainment.
