Bahawalpur: The father allegedly killed his newborn daughter during a domestic dispute with his wife at their home in Ahmedpur East, according to police and Rescue 1122.

Police identified the suspect as a labourer and said his relationship with his wife was strained.

According to authorities' initial account, the couple argued at home. During the dispute, the man allegedly attacked his newborn daughter, who died at the scene.

Police said the suspect fled after the incident.

Rescue 1122 officials and police later arrived. The child’s body was taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Ahmedpur East for a post mortem examination.

Police were investigating the circumstances and searching for the suspect. According to the latest report, a murder case is yet to be formally registered.

The incident once again drew attention to violence within households and to the particular vulnerability of children in domestic conflicts.
