Karachi: A court in Karachi has acquitted Anmol, also known as Pinky, in two cases involving narcotics and alleged facilitation, ordering her release after the prosecution failed to establish the charges against her.
The verdict was announced on Friday by an Additional District and Sessions Judge in Karachi South, who accepted the accused's applications for acquittal on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
The court directed the relevant authorities to release Anmol immediately, provided she was not required in connection with any other pending case. Anmol, who has been referred to in media reports as the "Cocaine Queen", had faced multiple criminal cases involving allegations of drug related activities.
However, the prosecution was unable to produce sufficient evidence to support the allegations in the two cases decided on Friday. Her brother, Nasir, had previously been acquitted in the same narcotics recovery case. With the latest ruling, Anmol has now been acquitted in five cases.
According to reports, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had also registered a case against her in 2018.
The available details do not establish the present status of that case or whether it was among the proceedings in which she has been acquitted. The latest judgment highlights the prosecution's failure to meet the required evidentiary standard in the two cases, resulting in Anmol's acquittal.
Under criminal law, allegations must be supported by sufficient admissible evidence before a court can establish guilt. The court's release order remains subject to confirmation that Anmol is not wanted in any other case.
