Islamabad: The government has reduced petrol prices by PKR 3.93 per litre to PKR 386.30, while keeping high speed diesel unchanged at PKR 396.96 per litre.
According to a Petroleum Division notification issued on Friday, the prices apply from October 17 to October 19.
The reduction lowers fuel costs for motorists, motorcycle riders and rickshaw users. Diesel, widely used in heavy transport, power plants and large generators, receives no price adjustment in this revision.
The government continues to collect PKR 114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and PKR 100 per litre on diesel.
Both fuels remain below their April 3 peaks, when petrol reached PKR 458.41 per litre and diesel rose to PKR 520.35. Prices had increased sharply after the US and Iran war began on February 28, disrupting regional energy markets.
The latest revision comes as Pakistan maintains fuel conservation measures introduced amid the Middle East conflict. These include closing markets by 9 pm and reducing official vehicles’ fuel allocations by 50 per cent for three months.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced a relief scheme on September 13 for users of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc, aimed at easing the burden of elevated international oil prices.
In July, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced a shift to daily fuel price setting in response to international market volatility. He said the government had assigned the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority responsibility for determining prices according to global trends.
Before that change, prices had been reviewed weekly since early March. The current notification sets rates for the three days ending October 19.
