Islamabad: Fresh forensic findings in the murder investigation of Hina Javed have raised further questions about the circumstances surrounding her death, with reported DNA matches linking biological evidence to her husband, Faisal Asghar, and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad.
According to details cited from a summary of the DNA report, Faisal's DNA matched samples collected from four locations, while Zeeshan's DNA reportedly matched biological material recovered from beneath Hina's fingernails.
The report also cited fingerprint evidence allegedly linking Faisal to several items and surfaces at the crime scene, including the victim's neck, clothing, a room door handle and a sheet reportedly used during the incident.
However, the reported forensic matches do not independently establish the guilt of either suspect. Investigators must determine how and when the biological material was deposited, while the courts will assess the evidence alongside other findings.
The latest developments have prompted Hina's family to renew its demand for a fair and transparent investigation.
Her brother, Fahad Javed, has expressed dissatisfaction with the police investigation, alleging that investigators are attempting to shift responsibility for the killing entirely onto the domestic worker despite the reported forensic evidence involving Faisal.
The family has called on the Punjab government to establish a judicial commission to examine the case independently and determine whether the initial investigation was conducted properly.
The case has also renewed concerns about the handling of forensic evidence in investigations involving allegations of violence and possible assault.
Although the findings may be relevant to establishing physical contact and the circumstances of the alleged offence, the available information does not independently confirm whether a separate assault took place.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Crime Control Department (CCD) has initiated a fresh investigation on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
A team headed by Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha has reviewed the DNA findings, postmortem report, evidence recovered from the crime scene and the conduct of the earlier investigation.
The renewed inquiry is expected to examine the forensic evidence alongside witness accounts and other available material to establish the sequence of events and assess the allegations against those under investigation.
The family's concerns and the reported forensic findings have placed additional scrutiny on the investigation, with questions remaining about how the evidence was collected, interpreted and used during the initial inquiry.
No final judicial determination of responsibility has been established on the basis of the reported findings.
Hina's family continues to seek an independent investigation and accountability through the legal process.
