Shanghai: The 48th WorldSkills Competition is under way in China. Often described as the Olympics of skills, it brings young professionals together to demonstrate what they can make, build, design and repair under competition conditions. Events cover traditional trades and newer technologies.
The opening ceremony took place on 22 September. Competitions run from 23 to 26 September at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center, with the closing ceremony on 27 September. Participants compete across 64 skills, putting their technical ability, precision and problem solving to the test.
What about Pakistan?
WorldSkills Pakistan says it has prepared to compete in welding, electrical installation, cooking, fashion design, refrigeration and air conditioning, and graphic design. Its selection process included regional and national competitions followed by training for the Shanghai event.
The event also includes an expo with demonstrations and hands on activities, while a conference from 23 to 25 September brings together people working in technical and vocational education. The broader aim is to raise the standing of skilled work and connect training more closely with the jobs industries need.
