Vehari: A 21 year old woman was killed in an alleged attack by relatives in Vehari district on Sunday, with police investigating the incident as a suspected killing in the name of so called honour.
According to police sources, the woman had been living with her parents following a divorce. Investigators said relatives allegedly planned the attack over suspicions concerning her personal life.
Police sources said her father took her to an area behind the family home, where other relatives were allegedly waiting. She was attacked with a knife and suffered serious injuries.
Police took her to hospital after receiving information about the incident. She died while being transferred to a hospital in Sahiwal for further treatment.
A murder case was registered against seven suspects, comprising five nominated individuals and two unidentified people. Those named include her father and brother in law.
Police said the woman’s legal heirs were unwilling to lodge the complaint, prompting her maternal uncle to become the complainant.
Her body was taken to a local hospital for a post mortem examination.
