Islamabad: The Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) has announced that it will fully participate in PTI’s October 4 protest, despite disagreeing with the decision to postpone it.
PTI had planned to begin its march towards Islamabad on September 27 to demand the release of its jailed founder, Imran Khan. It later moved the date to October 4. TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmad Yousafzai said the original protest call had been agreed jointly by the opposition alliance, but PTI’s political committee decided to delay it.
TTAP leaders Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas had favoured keeping the original date. The alliance says it will nevertheless join PTI on October 4.
The decision keeps the opposition partners together for the planned march, while making clear that they were divided over its timing. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said the protest will go ahead despite federal warnings over security in the province.
