Peshawar: Information and Public Relations Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour has called for a full investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving PKR 18.46 billion at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Economic Zones Development and Management Company.
In a statement, Bilour described the reported audit findings as concerning and said public resources must be managed transparently, with officials held accountable for their use.
She sought scrutiny of unpaid industrial land dues and alleged irregularities involving government land, saying investigators should establish responsibility and make the facts public.
Bilour also highlighted what she described as PKR 14 billion in potential outstanding dues identified in the audit report. Her statement did not explain whether that amount formed part of the PKR 18.46 billion figure or represented a separate issue. The two figures therefore cannot be added together and presented as a total loss.
The distinction matters because an audit objection, an outstanding receivable and proven corruption are different findings. Uncollected dues may represent money still recoverable by an organisation. Establishing an actual loss to the treasury, or individual wrongdoing, requires examination of the underlying records and evidence.
Bilour said the allegations should be investigated impartially and in accordance with the law. She also called for measures to address weak planning and administrative shortcomings within public institutions.
Protecting public resources required all relevant institutions to fulfil their responsibilities, she said, adding that expenditure and financial management must remain subject to scrutiny.
The statement did not identify the audit period, provide a breakdown of individual objections or include the company’s response. It also did not announce the opening of a formal inquiry.
