Rawalpindi: Torrential monsoon rains lashed Islamabad and Rawalpindi early Tuesday morning, causing widespread urban flooding and driving the water level in Leh Nullah up to 29 feet at Kattarian and 23.5 feet at Gawalmandi. With rainfall reaching up to 201mm in Shamsabad and 200mm in the nullah's primary catchment areas, emergency services were placed on high alert. Precautionary evacuations were promptly initiated for residents in vulnerable, lown lying settlements along Kattarian and Gawalmandi to prevent flood related casualties.

The severe weather forced the Rawalpindi district administration to announce a local public holiday for educational institutions, with officials urging citizens to limit non essential travel. In the capital, around 150mm of rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems, particularly in Sector E 11, causing severe road waterlogging and penetrating previously sealed basements. Rescue teams also responded to a boundary wall collapse in Sector D 12, where no injuries or casualties were reported. Dewatering machinery remains deployed across affected residential zones to clear standing water.

Islamabad Traffic Police issued comprehensive safety advisories, instructing drivers to reduce speeds, keep safe trailing distances, and use fog lights amidst reduced visibility. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, rainy conditions are expected to persist across upper Pakistan through 5 September, maintaining a high risk of urban flooding for low lying regions including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot.
