The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several districts of Sindh and Punjab over the coming days, prompting authorities to remain alert.
According to the weather department, a low-pressure system is present over the northwest Arabian Sea and adjoining areas. The system is expected to bring intermittent rain to Karachi and other parts of Sindh from September 14 to 16.
Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy, hot and humid today, with the maximum temperature likely to stay between 35°C and 37°C. Winds are blowing from the northwest at around 4 kilometres per hour.
Rain expected across several Sindh districts
The PMD has forecast rain from September 13 to 16 in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro.
Some areas may also experience strong winds, dust storms and thunderstorms along with rain.
In view of the expected weather, the Sindh Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory. Sindh Chief Minister's Adviser Giyan Chand Essrani has directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert.
Rain continues in parts of Punjab
Rain has also continued in different parts of Punjab. Light rain around Lahore's Mall Road, Liberty Chowk and MM Alam Road has made the weather more pleasant, although the humidity has not completely eased.
According to the Punjab PDMA, most districts of the province may receive intermittent rain from today until September 17.
Rain has also been forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and Murree.
The Punjab PDMA has warned of possible urban flooding in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujranwala, Wazirabad and Faisalabad.
Landslide and flash flood risk in hilly areas
The weather advisory also highlights the risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas.
Flash flooding is also possible in seasonal streams and waterways during periods of heavy rain.
Rain has been forecast in Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and surrounding areas.
