The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province from September 13 to 17, banning public gatherings of five or more people, processions and assemblies.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions have been imposed due to threats to public peace and the safety of lives and property.
Under the notification, gatherings of five or more people at public places, roads and open spaces will be prohibited. The carrying and display of all types of weapons has also been banned.
However, the restrictions will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials and places of worship.
Courts, government institutions, officially permitted events and security personnel have also been exempted from the restrictions.
According to intelligence reports, terrorist organisations are planning to target public gatherings. The provincial authorities have therefore imposed these measures as a precautionary step amid security concerns.
