Peshawar: Police and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused an 11 kilogram pressure cooker bomb found inside a vacant house in the Hafizabad locality of Yakatoot, Peshawar, according to police officials.
Workers discovered the suspicious device during construction at the property, prompting them to alert authorities.
Police and bomb disposal personnel reached the site, examined the suspicious object and safely neutralised the explosive device.
According to police, the house was rented to an Afghan family about five to six months earlier.
However, officials did not establish any link between the former tenants and the explosive device.
Police said the property was vacant when they discovered the device.
After the operation, authorities submitted a formal request to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to register a case and to conduct further investigation.
Investigators are expected to examine how the device ended up inside the house and identify those responsible for placing it there.
Police did not announce any arrests related to the discovery.
The timely response by police and bomb disposal personnel prevented the device from posing an immediate danger to residents and workers in the surrounding area.
The incident occurs amid ongoing security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law enforcement agencies remain engaged in operations against militancy.
