Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged Shanghai Cooperation Organisation members on Wednesday to turn shared commitments into practical results, as Pakistan begins shaping the programme for its 2026 to 2027 chairmanship.
Addressing national coordinators at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar outlined Pakistan’s theme, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation, and Shared Prosperity”. He called for close coordination ahead of the Council of Heads of State meeting, which Pakistan plans to host in Islamabad in August 2027.
The coordinators’ gathering is where preparations for those political decisions begin. The council manages the SCO’s regular activities and prepares meetings of leaders, heads of government and foreign ministers. Its work helps translate broad priorities into an agreed programme for member countries.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan’s priorities include stronger connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation and contacts between people. The SCO Secretariat says the current discussions also cover preparations for the upcoming heads of government meeting in Dushanbe and cooperation in political, trade, cultural and humanitarian affairs.
Senior representatives of the SCO Secretariat and its Regional Anti Terrorist Structure also attended, bringing the organisation’s security institutions into the consultations alongside its economic and diplomatic agenda.
Dar pledged an open, inclusive and constructive chairmanship guided by the “Shanghai Spirit”, including mutual trust, equality, consultation and common development.
His emphasis on tangible outcomes sets the direction for the months ahead: developing practical initiatives through coordination among members before leaders gather in Islamabad next year.
