Islamabad: Pakistan and Oman reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in trade, investment and people to people contacts during a meeting between their foreign ministers on Wednesday, the Foreign Office said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, ahead of the eighth session of the Pakistan Oman Joint Ministerial Commission.
The Foreign Office said the ministers emphasised sustained high level engagement to strengthen cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
Discussing regional developments, both said dialogue and diplomacy were essential to advancing lasting peace and stability.
Al Busaidi praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and security. Dar acknowledged Oman’s constructive role and said the two countries shared aspirations for regional stability, according to the statement.
Dar received the Omani minister at the Foreign Ministry earlier on Wednesday. The two ministers are scheduled to jointly chair the commission session.
Al Busaidi arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for a two day official visit at Dar’s invitation. The commission provides a forum to review bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Its agenda includes trade, investment, industry, agriculture, finance, oil and gas, labour and consular affairs. Security, defence, climate change, civil aviation, education, media and culture are also among the planned areas of discussion.
Dar had chaired a preparatory meeting on Saturday to review the agenda and proposed bilateral agreements. He directed relevant institutions to ensure thorough preparations and effective follow through to deliver practical results.
The latest Foreign Office statement outlined the ministers’ shared priorities but did not announce new trade agreements or investment commitments.
