Madrid: Streaming giant Netflix has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra, expanding its presence in live sports with coverage of football's biggest international tournament.
Under the agreement, Netflix will stream all 104 matches of the competition, giving subscribers in both territories access to the tournament through its platform.
The arrangement also includes provisions for free to air coverage in Spain. One match per matchday will be available free of charge, while a free to air broadcaster will show every match involving the Spanish national team, both semi finals and the final.
The broadcasting arrangements are intended to maintain public access to major fixtures while allowing Netflix to provide comprehensive coverage of the tournament.
The agreement represents a significant development in Netflix's sports strategy as the company continues to expand beyond films, television series and documentaries into live sporting events.
The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, making it the first edition of the men's tournament to be staged across Europe and Africa, with additional commemorative matches in South America.
Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will each host a centenary match to mark 100 years since the inaugural World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. The tournament will feature 48 national teams competing in 104 matches, following the expanded format introduced for the 2026 World Cup.
For Netflix, the agreement would provide an opportunity to attract football audiences in Spain and Andorra while strengthening its position in the competitive sports streaming market. Netflix also plans to provide pre match, half time and post match programmes, alongside daily highlights and additional coverage tailored to Spanish audiences.
The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, and Netflix has yet to announce which national broadcaster will carry the free to air matches. The deal builds on Netflix's existing partnership with FIFA, which includes broadcasting rights to the 2027 and 2031 Women's World Cups in the United States and Canada.
Netflix has also expanded its live sports programming through NFL and Major League Baseball events, WWE broadcasts and major boxing contests. The 2030 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 8 to July 21, marking the centenary of the tournament's first edition in Uruguay in 1930.
The agreement applies exclusively to Spain and Andorra and does not cover Netflix subscribers in other countries.
