Jeddah: The Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition held its fourth planning meeting in Jeddah, bringing together naval commanders, military planners, ambassadors and representatives from 41 countries to discuss greater coordination and operational preparedness.
The meeting was attended by 154 participants, including European Union representatives and officials involved in maritime security planning.
Discussions focused on integrating the participating countries’ capabilities, improving operational readiness and preparing for the coalition’s active presence in its designated maritime area of operations.
The meeting comes after the coalition achieved Initial Operational Capability (IOC), marking a key stage in its development and allowing it to move towards more structured operational engagement.
Multinational maritime coalitions are generally established to improve coordination among participating states, strengthen maritime situational awareness and support collective responses to emerging security challenges at sea.
The Jeddah meeting highlighted the coalition’s focus on translating planning and coordination into practical operational preparedness, while strengthening cooperation among its participating members.
The gathering also underscored the importance of joint planning and interoperability among naval forces from different countries as maritime security concerns continue to evolve across strategic waterways.
Officials described the meeting as a significant step towards enhancing multinational maritime defence cooperation and preparing the coalition for its next operational phase.
