Ankara: A tanker was hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire that was later extinguished, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a warning issued on Friday.

According to the UKMTO, it received a report of an incident in the Strait of Hormuz from the chief security officer (CSO) of a vessel. The CSO reported that the tanker had been struck by an unknown projectile, resulting in a fire onboard.

The fire has since been extinguished, while all crew members were reported to be safe, the maritime security organisation said.

The UKMTO said the environmental impact of the incident remained unconfirmed at the time of its report.

The warning, identified as 138-26- Attack, was issued on September 18, 2026, with the report time recorded as 0400 UTC. The source of the information was listed as a company security officer.
