Islamabad: Islamabad police have completed their inquiry into the fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and submitted the report to the Inspector General of Police.

The findings are scheduled to be handed over to the Ministry of Interior for further review. A formal decision on the registration of a criminal case in connection with the incident will be taken only after final clearance from the ministry.

The inquiry report incorporates written statements and documented location details of the named officers. It also contains statements recorded from hospital doctors. Investigators took written statements from the former Executive Director of PIMS, Imran Sikandar, and from Professor Dr Saadia. Sources confirmed that investigators also recorded the statement of Razia Parveen, a nurse who successfully saved a newborn during the blaze.

To reconstruct the events surrounding the incident, investigators compiled comprehensive visual evidence. Closed-circuit television footage obtained from inside PIMS Hospital and surveillance feeds from the Safe City project have been included as integral parts of the final report.

In a related development, the Islamabad High Court heard a petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the PIMS tragedy. During proceedings, the court merged the newly filed petition with an existing case already pending before the bench regarding hospital safety measures.

Police say the investigation is now concluded at the local level. The report containing the statements of the former executive director, the professor, the nurse and other doctors, together with the location details of the named officers and the visual material from both the hospital cameras and the Safe City system, was placed before the IGP. Once the Ministry of Interior completes its examination of these materials, a decision will be made on whether a criminal case should be registered. No further action by the police is expected until the ministry issues its clearance.
