Web Desk: After nearly two decades of shaping Pakistan’s contemporary music landscape, Coke Studio Pakistan is opening a new chapter with Nu.WAV, a platform aimed at giving a new generation of creators more room to experiment.

Unlike the traditional Coke Studio format, Nu.WAV brings together musicians, producers, filmmakers, designers and visual artists to create independent sounds and stories. The project is the brainchild of award winning filmmaker Kamal Khan, whose association with Coke Studio spans around 15 years.

Nu.WAV is being positioned as a space where artists can develop their own creative identities rather than fit into a predetermined musical formula.

Coke Studio Pakistan General Manager Sami Wahid described the initiative as a natural extension of the platform’s cultural legacy. Over 15 seasons and nearly 350 releases, Coke Studio has taken Pakistani music to audiences in more than 180 countries while providing opportunities for emerging artists.

The new project reflects a generation accustomed to creating and releasing music independently, particularly through digital platforms.

The wider lineup features artists including Asim Azhar, Hasan Raheem, Young Stunners, Shae Gill, Maanu, Aaryan SDQ, Afusic, Izz Chughtai, Sabaat Batin, and Zoha Waseem.

The project debuted at an event at Lahore’s historic Bradlaugh Hall on August 22, pairing the venue’s traditional architecture with a contemporary visual setting.

Early glimpses suggest a genre blending musical direction, though the project’s creators will ultimately be judged on whether Nu.WAV can establish a distinctive identity of its own.

For Coke Studio, Nu.WAV represents more than another collection of songs. It is an attempt to broaden its role from a music series into a wider creative space.

With greater emphasis on collaboration, experimentation and individual artistic voices, Nu.WAV could signal a new direction for how Pakistan’s music and creative culture are presented, both at home and internationally.
