Karachi: Mixed martial arts fighter Sherbaz Marri of Balochistan won a gold medal at the Nomad MMA Championship in Kazakhstan, helping Pakistan finish second overall.
Pakistan's contingent secured seven medals at the championship: four gold and three bronze. Marri's victory formed part of the team's performance at the international competition, where Pakistani fighters competed against athletes from other participating countries.
Marri hails from Kohlu district in Balochistan. In reports published on October 26, he thanked the people of Pakistan and the Balochistan government for their support after his victory.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) combines techniques from several combat sports, with athletes competing in different weight categories. International championships give fighters opportunities to gain competitive experience and represent their countries.
Pakistan's four gold medals accounted for more than half of its seven medals in Kazakhstan. However, the available reports do not identify the other Pakistani medal winners or specify Marri's weight category, opponent or the result of his final bout.
Marri has previously competed at a Nomad MMA event in Kazakhstan. In October 2024, he told Kazakh news outlet Tengrinews that he won a bronze medal while representing a five member Pakistani team accompanied by a coach.
His latest gold medal therefore adds to his international record.
The achievement also highlights athletes emerging from Balochistan, a province whose representation in national sport is often discussed in relation to access to training, facilities and competitive opportunities.
Pakistan's second place finish reflects the contributions of multiple fighters rather than a single result. The medal tally measures the team's performance, though a fuller assessment would require more information about the participating countries and individual categories.
Radio Pakistan reported the results on 26 October 2026. The reports reviewed did not include the exact competition dates, a full list of participating countries, or official bout by bout results.
