Islamabad: A young university graduate was found dead in Islamabad on Friday, October 9, amid charges that an education consultant defrauded the victim’s family of millions of rupees by providing fake documents for admission to a university in the United States.
The student graduated from the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The victim’s body was discovered in the G 10 area, within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station.
Police said initial findings suggested a possible suicide, but the circumstances and cause of death remain under investigation.
According to the family, the victim earned a gold medal in their bachelor's degree and hoped to pursue higher education in the United States.
The victim’s relatives alleged that an education consultant demanded about Rs 7 million to arrange admission and related documentation.
The victim’s father, who reportedly earned his living by delivering milk on a motorcycle, sold a plot of land to fund the education and paid Rs 2.1 million to the consultant, according to the family.
The victim’s mother also pledged jewellery to arrange additional funds.
However, the family alleged that the consultant later found the university admission documents and other documents to be fraudulent.
Police said the victim was reportedly distressed after discovering the suspected fraud.
Investigators subsequently collected evidence and began examining the circumstances of the incident.
According to media reports, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also acknowledged the allegations and contacted the family for further details.
Police said the post mortem examination and the ongoing investigation would help determine the cause of death and whether the fraud was linked to the incident.
The case also highlighted the risks posed by fraudulent overseas education consultants and the importance of independently verifying university admission offers and financial requirements.
