Shangla: A child and a man were killed and six people injured when a building’s staircase collapsed during an operation to remove encroachments at Aloch Bazaar in Puran on Tuesday, according to an official situation report provided to QOM.
The report, dated October 27 and addressed to Shangla’s deputy commissioner, said the operation began at approximately 10 am. The collapse occurred at about 4.45 pm as the operation was nearing completion.
The Assistant Commissioner Puran’s report attributed the collapse to a large crowd that had gathered to watch the operation. This was the administration’s preliminary account of the incident.

The deceased were identified as Abbas, son of Zahoor, aged approximately 11 or 12, and Irshad, son of Wazir Muhammad, aged approximately 50 or 51.
Six injured people were listed in the report, including five children or teenagers and one adult. Four of the injured, Aurangzeb, Anas, Samiullah and Murad Khan, were referred to Swat for further treatment because of the severity of their injuries.
The assistant commissioner recommended that the injured, particularly those requiring referral for treatment, be considered for special financial compensation.
The report also proposed financial assistance for the families of Abbas and Irshad, subject to applicable rules and approval by the competent authority.
These were recommendations rather than an approved compensation package. The document did not specify payment amounts or announce an inquiry into the collapse.
