Washington: US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Washington was considering joining Saudi Arabia's military operations against Yemen's Iran backed Houthi group following an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
Speaking to reporters, Trump condemned the attack and said the United States would assess the situation before deciding whether to take military action.
“We may. We’re gonna look at it,” Trump said when asked whether US forces would participate in strikes against the Houthis.
“We just found out about the recent attack. So we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly,” he added.
According to Saudi authorities, Saturday's attack killed at least 12 people and injured 309 others.
Those killed included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshi citizens and one national each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt.
Trump had also criticised earlier attacks on two Saudi airports, expressing dissatisfaction with the developments.
“Not good. It’s not a good thing. I’m not happy about it,” he told reporters.
Saudi Arabia has been conducting military operations against the Houthi group, which is backed by Iran and operates in Yemen.
Trump's remarks indicate that US participation remains under consideration, with no decision announced on whether American forces will join the Saudi campaign.
