Hyderabad: Police arrested an inspector of the Sindh Police Highway Patrol (SPHP) and detained his two security guards after the officer allegedly opened fire during an argument in Hyderabad's Paretabad area on Wednesday, injuring three people.
Hyderabad Senior Superintendent of Police Shahzeb Chachar confirmed the arrests, adding that the inspector was currently posted in Jamshoro district.
Hospital officials said one of the victims remained in critical condition, while the other two continued to receive treatment.
According to a first information report (FIR) registered at Pinyari police station by the victim’s brother, the dispute began when the inspector allegedly knocked over a motorcycle parked outside the family's residence.
The complainant also alleged that the officer argued with family members.
During Wednesday's confrontation, the inspector allegedly used abusive language and assaulted a woman from the family. When the victim intervened, the officer reportedly opened fire.
Two people passing through the area were also injured.
The victim’s son claimed that his father was recording the confrontation on his mobile phone, which further angered the inspector.
Doctors at Liaquat University Hospital said the victim underwent emergency surgery and was transferred to intensive care, where he remained under observation.
The FIR includes charges of attempted murder, assault on a woman, and intentional insult under the Pakistan Penal Code, alongside provisions of the Anti Terrorism Act. The allegations remain unproven in court.
