Quetta: Security forces have killed seven terrorists during two intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Balochistan, state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported on Friday, citing sources.
Five terrorists were killed during an operation in the Fateh Ali area of Panjgur district, according to the report. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
A separate IBO was conducted in the Dhadar area of Kachhi district, where two terrorists were killed. Several other terrorists were also reportedly injured during the operation, Radio Pakistan said.
The latest operations come amid an increase in terrorist attacks in Balochistan in recent weeks, with security forces intensifying counter-terrorism operations across the province.
According to a monthly assessment by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, terrorist attacks in Balochistan rose by seven per cent in August, increasing from 83 in July to 89.
Security forces have conducted a series of operations in the province in recent weeks.
On the night of August 31 and September 1, terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan launched a coordinated attack on the Customs House at Ziarat Cross on the N-50 National Highway in Pishin district.
In retaliatory action, security forces killed 10 terrorists, while six people, including two officers, were martyred in the exchange of fire, according to the Radio Pakistan.
