Lahore: Punjab has introduced a digital portal and monitoring system to strengthen the inspection and oversight of prisons across the province, with officials reviewing the new system at a meeting chaired by Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi.
The meeting examined the use of the modern portal for monitoring prison inspections and reviewing reports submitted from jails. Officials also reviewed the Executive Monitoring Dashboard, which provides an online mechanism for observing inspection reports and other prison-related information.
The Directorate of Monitoring and senior prison officers have been directed to use the online portal as part of the new monitoring arrangements, according to a spokesperson.
The portal will contain detailed information on prison security and compliance with prison laws, allowing officials to access reports on key areas of jail administration through a centralised system. Information about prisoner capacity will also be available on the portal. It will record details of prisoners entering and leaving prisons on a daily basis, providing officials with updated information on admissions and releases.
The monitoring dashboard will also maintain individual records for prisoners. These records will include information about their age, educational qualifications and health condition.
The system will further record prisoners’ capacity to learn skills, providing information related to their potential for skills development.
Officials were briefed on the portal and its monitoring functions during the meeting, with the Directorate of Monitoring and senior prison officers instructed to make use of the online system.
The introduction of the portal brings prison inspection reports, security information, legal compliance data and selected prisoner records together on an online dashboard for monitoring by relevant officials. The meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi.
