Islamabad: Senior PTI lawyers approached the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Tuesday to seek an early hearing of Bushra Bibi’s appeal concerning the rejection of her sentence suspension request in the Al Qadir Trust case, Dawn reported.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Salman Safdar led the delegation, which asked the court office to register the appeal and place it before an appropriate bench.
Advocate Intezar Hussain Panjutha told Dawn that the court office assured the lawyers the appeal would be numbered within the week and subsequently fixed for hearing. He said Tuesday’s request was verbal and no fresh application was filed.
Bushra was sentenced to seven years in prison in January 2025 in the case involving 190 million pounds. She remains incarcerated at Adiala jail.
She and PTI founder Imran Khan sought suspension of their sentences from the Islamabad High Court in July 2025. The court rejected the requests in May 2026, saying their appeals against conviction had already been scheduled for hearing.
In an application submitted to the FCC on September 17, Safdar sought an expedited hearing on health grounds, saying Bushra’s eyesight was deteriorating.
The application said she underwent surgery on her right eye at Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital on April 16 after her condition became an ocular emergency. It said a subsequent examination showed changes in her previously unaffected left eye.
Her lawyers argued that further delay threatened her remaining eyesight and that women in custody should receive priority consideration.
The application concerned delays in deciding her sentence suspension request. It said resolving that issue would not require a detailed examination of the main appeal against conviction.
