Dubai: Pakistan will face India on Saturday in a key Group A match at the Women’s Asia Cup T20, with both sides looking to strengthen their position ahead of the semifinals.
The match will be played at the Dubai International Stadium on 5 September as the eight team tournament moves towards its decisive stage. The competition began on 28 August and will continue until September 13, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi finals.
The Indian team has already secured a place in the knockout stage after comprehensive victories over Thailand and Hong Kong. Their latest win was powered by Smriti Mandhana, who scored 124 runs from 64 balls against Hong Kong. The innings took Mandhana past Mithali Raj as the leading run scorer in women’s international cricket.
Pakistan will enter the match against a strong Indian side that has emerged as one of the tournament favourites. The two teams have met 17 times in women’s T20 internationals, with India winning 14 of those matches. Pakistan, however, have recorded victories in the rivalry and will look to challenge India’s unbeaten start to the tournament.
The match also comes at an important stage of Pakistan’s campaign. A strong performance against India could improve their position in the group and strengthen their hopes of reaching the semi finals. The team will need to manage the pressure of a high profile fixture while maintaining focus on its batting, bowling and fielding.
The fixture is expected to attract significant attention because of the longstanding cricket rivalry between Pakistan and India. For both teams, however, the immediate objective remains competitive: India will look to maintain their momentum, while Pakistan will aim to produce a result that keeps their campaign firmly on track as the tournament approaches the knockout stage.
