Islamabad: Pakistan is seeking stronger business to business links with Hong Kong as it looks to expand trade, attract investment and develop new areas of economic cooperation.
Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan made the remarks during a visit to the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, where he met its chairman and representatives of the business community.
The minister highlighted Hong Kong’s expertise in finance, aviation and digital technology as areas where Pakistan could develop greater commercial cooperation.
He also pointed to the potential of the Belt and Road Initiative to improve connectivity and support the development of transit routes linking markets.
Kamal called for regular engagement between Pakistani and Hong Kong business communities, including exchanges of trade delegations to identify new commercial opportunities.
The minister also met members of the Pakistani community and business leaders in Hong Kong, recognising the diaspora’s contribution to the territory’s economy.
He urged Pakistani businesspeople living in Hong Kong to play a more active role in presenting Pakistan’s economic potential and helping attract investment into the country.
The push comes as Pakistan seeks to broaden its trade and investment partnerships beyond traditional markets. Stronger commercial links with Hong Kong could provide opportunities for Pakistani businesses to access financial services, technology and international markets.
For Pakistan, however, converting such discussions into sustained trade and investment will depend on whether business contacts translate into concrete projects, market access and long term commercial partnerships.
